ETIMESBLOG is an independent blog for people who rent out cars: small car rental owners, and hosts on peer-to-peer car sharing platforms such as Turo and Getaround. It's written by someone who does the same work every week.

Who writes ETIMESBLOG

I'm Umair Abid. I run a car rental business in the United States, so the questions this blog answers are the ones I deal with myself: how to price a car, which insurance and protection options make sense, how to screen renters, what to do after damage, and how to keep cars maintained and earning.

I'm also building FleetsMerica, fleet management software for independent rental owners, and I work as a web designer and developer. That mix means I spend a lot of time thinking about the tools and systems that make a small fleet easier to run.

What you'll find here

  • Car rental business: starting out, pricing, operations, costs and profit.

  • Car sharing platforms: practical guides for hosts on listing cars, trips, reviews and platform rules.

  • Insurance and protection: rental car insurance, protection plans, damage claims and renter verification, explained in plain English.

  • Fleet management: software, maintenance tracking and the systems that keep cars on the road.

How we work

Articles combine first-hand experience from running a rental business with facts checked against official sources, such as platform help centres, insurers and government guidance. Platform fees and rules change often, so we link to the official page whenever we mention them. You can read more in our editorial policy.

ETIMESBLOG is independent. We are not affiliated with or endorsed by Turo, Getaround or any other platform or insurer we write about, and nothing here is legal, tax or insurance advice for your specific situation.
